The cross-country skiing elite visits Goms

With a top-class field of competitors, the Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup next weekend promises thrilling races. The international elite of cross-country skiing has registered for the Olympic dress rehearsal in Goms.

The Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup Goms features a field that ranks among the strongest of the season in both depth and quality. Athletes from more than 20 nations will be on the старт from Friday to Sunday.

Norway: Dominance Continues

Norway is travelling with an almost complete World Cup team. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, five-time Tour de Ski winner, is among the top favourites in the sprint events. In the distance races, Harald Østberg Amundsen and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget are firmly established contenders. In the women’s field, Tiril Udnes Weng and Lotta Udnes Weng return to World Cup action after health-related absences. The sprint team is led by Kristine Stavås Skistad, one of the fastest skiers in the world.

Sweden: A Strong Starting Position

The high-calibre Swedish squad includes, among others, Edvin Anger, Linn Svahn, Emma Ribom and Maja Dahlqvist, all of whom regularly contend for podium places at World Cup and championship level.

Finland: An Expanded Group of Favourites

Finland traditionally arrives with a strong classic-technique block. While the team is not as deep as Norway or Sweden, it features several athletes who regularly finish in the top 10, such as Joni Mäki, Perttu Hyvärinen, and Kerttu Niskanen on the women’s side.

USA: Versatility and Experience

Jessie Diggins travels to Goms as a three-time overall World Cup winner. Her victory at the 2026 Tour de Ski underlined her excellent form—she is a podium contender in all disciplines. Julia Kern and Rosie Brennan are also competitive in sprint and middle-distance events.

Switzerland: Home Advantage and Ambitions

Nadine Fähndrich is Switzerland’s main hope. The sprint specialist has recently delivered consistent top results and aims to confirm her 2024 podium finish in Goms in front of a home crowd. In the men’s races, Valerio Grond, Janik Riebli and Beda Klee are set to compete—all with World Cup experience and podium ambitions. Young talents such as Jason Rüesch are also being given the opportunity to start.

Italy and France are also presenting themselves in strong form. Athletes such as Federico Pellegrino and Jules Chappaz have regularly finished in the top 10 this season, significantly broadening the field of favourites.

Alongside the established names, young talents will also have the chance to prove themselves on the big stage. The races in Goms are regarded as an important benchmark of form ahead of the Olympic Games. Will the favourites prevail, or will there be surprises?

The organisers are looking forward to an exciting sporting showdown set against a unique backdrop. Preparations for next weekend are in full swing—Goms is ready for world-class cross-country skiing.
